Paradoxes of Faith

Welcome to institutional racism in America. And some of you thought it was gone forty years ago.

Now, I don’t know why it took nearly two months to release this video and story. I don’t know why I had to first find it while reading this BBC article this morning.

On August 11th, 2006, William Cardenas, 24 from Hollywood, California was arrested and brutally beaten by the Hollywood Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. The cops would have gotten away with the beating if it wasn’t for a neighbor who video-taped the beating on her camera. [check out CopWatchLA for more follow up]

I’m not sure why the videos are all chopped up, but watch all three – notice the blood all over Mr. Cardenas’ face. Listen to him scream. Tell me, will these cops be fired for this? I find it also quite interesting that we’re putting on a Race, Ethnicity, and Justice outreach in the City College quad in four days, specifically to talk about issues such as the ones raised in these videos.
