Patriotism as Pseudepigrapha
5.27.06
Justified as security and marked as defense
Slapped ‘In God We Trust’ on the bill to cover the offense
Spoonfed garbage to the masses because they’re deaf to common-sense
Oblivious to the reality their Gospel’s been condensed
More concerned with Uncle Sam and his hands in your pockets
Than your Church full o’ hypocrites, Pharisees and false prophets
Modern day Levites and priests build up walls protecting their class
When faced with a broken neighbor hit the gas and drove past
If you’re not part of the solution, then you’re just part of the problem
Thinking because you passed by you’re better than those who robbed him
Yet sanctioning his execution and so quick to condemn
Avoiding the revolution like a white man does Harlem
Church manipulated by power worse than Jezebel and Ahab
It’s time to start a Republicans Anonymous and a Conservative rehab
Caught up in your ivory tower trying to take back control of this movement
But your theology is whack until it touches the pavement
Stained with the blood of the weak and the sweat of the brave
Imagine that, suburbia’s become the real home of the slave
Locked into false peace and Lexus-filled streets
While ghetto children dig through garbage simply trying to eat
Black men still either conscripted or imprisoned
White churches so consumed with talking they got no time to listen
More concerned about executive pants falling below thighs
Than sword-wielding hands and blindfold-shielded eyes
Leaving single mamas home with babies in both arms
Daddy’s not coming back again because he’s out dropping the bombs
Now creating more single mothers in foreign streets begging for alms
Out dodging the bombs, running, crying, quoting the Psalms
Manic materialism giving rise to economic imperialism
G.O.P. evangelicalism promoting international ethnocentrism
Rather than feeding our neighbor, engaging in hedonistic cannibalism
Found swallowing others’ children to satisfy our consumerism
Commodified pulpit ignorance preaching hatred not stopping
Trying to conscript us to your vision of Christian sharecropping
But we can no longer hear you speaking in tongues
Over the sound of the bombs you’ve been dropping.
